Sam Harcus, Director and Colin Risbridger, Chairman

Sam Harcus, 45, born in Westray lives on the island with his wife and is father of six. He is a marine engineer by background however in the last five years he has been more heavily involved in community development and all aspects of renewable energy. A director of Orkney Renewable Energy Forum and Chairman of the community sub group Sam is passionate about developing renewable energy projects. He is also a director of the Westray Development Trust and is working with them on their electric vehicle, biofuels, and community wind turbine projects. Sam is employed full time with Heat and Power Limited and also delivers advice to communities in Orkney on funding from the Scottish Community & Householder Renewable Initiative on behalf of the Highlands & Islands Energy Company.

Colin Risbridger, 30, originally from Wick, Caithness now lives in Westray with his wife and two sons. He is a Chartered Engineer with a degree in Energy and Environmental Engineering from Napier University and a Masters in Business Administration from Heriot Watt University. He is currently studying for an MSc in Renewable Energy Research with the Environmental Research Institute on the topic of 'The fertiliser value of digestate'.

Colin is vice chair of the Orkney Renewable Energy Forum and in addition to being the chairman of Heat and Power Limited he also trades as C Ris Energy. His background is in the power industry where he worked with Scottish Power plc before moving north to settle in Orkney. He has worked on a number of community renewable energy projects including the 100% Renewable Energy Plan for Westray, developing the business model and securing the finance for the locally owned 850kW Burray Wind Turbine. His latest success has been the design and construction of the anaerobic digestion plant at Tuquoy, Westray capable of handling up to 1,500 tonnes per annum of feedstock.
